German has 75,300,000 speakers in Germany and 95,392,978 speakers worldwide.

German is a member of the Western group of the Germanic branch of the Indo-European language family.

The German alphabet uses the same 26 letters as the modern Latin alphabet.It also uses three diacritic letters and one ligature. The diacritic letters however are only used to represent distinct sounds in German phonology and are usually not considered part of the alphabet.

It is spoken in over 40 countries including Austria and Belgium where it is an official language.
